Thatcherism podcast
This is probably the episode of the Economics in Ten podcast I found most interesting. It’s from a feature-length special (just under an hour and a half) diving into the economics of Thatcherism: what it actually was, where the ideas came from, and what the evidence says about whether they worked. Pete and Gav cover monetarism and the quantity theory of money (MV=PT), the Laffer Curve, privatisation and supply-side reform. It’s a well-structured episode and a useful companion to teaching macro policy, particularly for students who need to understand the intellectual foundations of what became the dominant economic orthodoxy of the 1980s and beyond. There are also the obligatory limericks about her rise and fall, which your students will either love or politely endure. Accessible and directly spec-relevant: the supply-side and monetarism content maps well onto A-level macro, though the length (around 90 minutes) means it works better as a set independent listen than a class activity.
