Paul Samuelson podcast

This is from Economics in Ten podcast, season eight, episode four. Season 8 of Economics in Ten has the theme “The Economists’ Economist”: each episode, a well-known living economist nominates their favourite economist from history. Paul Krugman nominates Paul Samuelson, widely regarded as the most influential economist of the 20th century, and this episode covers a lot of ground as a result. Samuelson essentially modernised economics by formalising it mathematically and contributed to almost every corner of the discipline. It’s perhaps the broadest episode of the season and isn’t focused on a single spec topic, but Krugman’s framing of why Samuelson matters is interesting.
