James Meade podcast

This is from Economics in Ten podcast, season eight, episode three. Season 8 of Economics in Ten has the theme “The Economists’ Economist”: each episode, a well-known living economist nominates their favourite economist from history. Angus Deaton nominates James Meade, a Nobel laureate whose contributions ranged remarkably widely. He was behind early thinking on international trade organisations, worked extensively on unemployment, and had a lifelong commitment to full employment as a policy goal. There’s a really interesting discussion in this episode about Universal Basic Income (UBI), which Meade was an early advocate of, and that section alone makes it worth saving for a policy debate lesson.
