How has deindustrialisation affected living standards in the UK?
This Economics Observatory piece uses the history of the collapse of coal, steel and shipbuilding and what it did to the places that depended on them, in order to help us to look at the effects of deindustrialisation. The dockworkers' comparison at the end is the part I would build a lesson on, since redundancy guarantees negotiated by the unions appear to have prevented the same long-run scarring.
Great for Supply Side Policies, Structural Unemployment or Globalisation, as well as a potential synoptic micro-macro link with labour.
