Very rarely do news events occur in isolation, they do so against backdrop of months, years or sometimes centuries of history. Properly engaging in the news for the first time, without full awareness of this backdrop, can therefore be quite a challenge. We're never going to be able to get them totally or even anything more than fractionally up to date, but for a 4-minute video, this review by the BBC does a pretty good job at covering the basics of the biggest forces in the UK economy right now.
